A cosmic glitch in gravity, not fading dark energy? A fresh reading of the DESI puzzle

DESI’s hint that dark energy is weakening has rattled cosmology. In a new preprint, Robin Wen, Niayesh Afshordi and colleagues argue the same data fit at least as well if gravity itself is about 0.8% weaker on cosmic scales — a “cosmic glitch,” not evolving dark energy.

DESI’s data hint that dark energy may be weakening over time — a possible crack in cosmology’s standard model. But a new preprint offers a rival reading: maybe dark energy isn’t changing, and gravity itself is simply about 0.8% weaker on the largest scales. A “cosmic glitch,” not fading dark energy.
